Hi.Does anyone have any good techniques for adding organic matter to very congested beds where there is little soil not covered by plants.I thought the only wat i could do it is to sieve dry compost, apply this to the beds and try to brush in. I should'nt think i could apply much this way and maybe it would damage some plants if there was too much left on leaf and crowns over the winter.Any suggestions apart from digging the lot out and replacing after ?Thanks stu.

    Thanksguys.

Alot of the plants are ground cover types which makes it tricky to remove or divide. When the perennials have been cut back then a little could be applied around them but it will be a precision job. Lots of foxgloves, cowslips and other plants which rely on self seeding.
