Intresting topic as I may be considering a Honda HRH 536 QX Pro in the near future....
  • The air filters on the 21inch ranges are much better than the others...my Honda powered Flymo has the smaller square plastic covered filter and I don't think the seal is that good I regularly find stuff behind it same went for the Honda 19inch roller I had too, in fact I had to regularly drain the bowl and flush it through !

2nd season on my HRD 536 roller and all is well, have to jet wash out the bag if mowing damp grass regularly to keep collection up as the holes clog..it's not the pro model but the only difference is the wheels a bracket on the handle a  front bumper..bit much for the 200+ price difference !

    Cheers

I have had a HRD 536 QX Pro for 5 years.

It is much better in almost every way than the Hayter Harrier 48's I run although repairs to the drive can be costly (I needed to replace the roller, needle bearings and gearbox last year which cost around £500, but this is the 1st time since new)

Having said that the Honda GX engine is almost faultless (needs carb cleaned every couple of years!) and the cut is great.

If it is a roller mower you want, then I will recommend this over a Hayter. If you need a 4 wheel mower then perhaps Etesia might be a better bet!

The Pro model has less vibrations than the domestic machine, heavier duty deck and the cables are tidied away neatly (although thee handles don't fold), other wise the domestic/pro machines are identical.

  • I've got the HRX426 without the rear roller, 17in.

It's not classed as a pro model but chose it as I have to carry the mower up steps on a few contracts on my own and the weight is reasonable.

Gives a very good cut, great stripe despite lack of rear roller due to rubber strip at the rear.

Downside is poor pickup in the wet, not an uncommon complaint for most mowers and it is VERY slow.

I get away with it as all my contracts are small so it's not too much of an issue but I've heard other models, IZZYs etc also v slow so I would try and test a model before purchasing.

Drive went in first year and was replaced under warranty and it has just gone again, but I'm not that surprised as it gets quite a hard time. Overall I would definitely recommend if the speed is good on your model.

  • What's the difference in the deck..? from what I've seen they are the same cast ally Hammerite type paint finish ?

    Cheers

The Pro deck is slightly thicker (heavier duty?), that is all.

  • I am thinking about buying a new honda four wheel pro 21in mower. I dont think you can fault honda mowers, or lawnflite mowers either.

All great mowers, built well and very solid!! I run a variety of lawnflite machines and they have never let me down (apart from when i dropped the mower off my tipper!)

I am currently looking at the hrh 536 because it has an 83ltr grass bag! Big!!

  • Had my pro for three seasons, never missed a beat, IMHO the best roller on the market
  • We bought the pro this year having used kaaz machines, not much inbetween them but the Honda is a bit easier to use maybe because its newer. We as a team certainly rate it and feel the money was well spent.
  • The Honda Pro 21 Mowers are superb and without doubt the best on the market. Cefinately the choice of professional Grounds Maintenance Companys. The hydrostatic can mow very quickly and is great for rough and fairly fine mowing. The roller version gives a very defined striped finish for a rotary mower.
