I have just been thinking the same thing between these two models and thought I'd check ye old faithful LJN forums first! I guessed the smart drive looked a bit domestic and B&Q so decided the hydrostatic was best.
Got a bit of cash to spend this winter.
Dan I think you are right. I got the hydrostatic in the end after much thought. Amongst other things I thought that it was another fancy thing to go wrong and another bill to get it repaired! hydro is more simple, and I decided that it has always been fine for me so if not broken dont fix it.
I have found that with the mulching handle which you slide across to block the chute if not used regularly can be very hard to pull across as gets clogged underneath and needs a scrape out with the trowel first, otherwise it mulches back brilliantly and often you cant tell its been mulched as it cuts so finely
