Hi James i had the same problem but use 4 short cam straps with tensioning buckles around £7 for two on amazon ( not to be mistaken for ratchet straps ) and an ulti bar roof rack wiith the ulti bar roof stops and the henchman doesn't move you can adjust the stops accordingly so the hench fits between the stops snugly .
Thanks for the reply John, Yeah i have some of those straps with tension buckles and they're not the best they keep coming loose, ill have a look at this ulti bar roof rack, sounds like a combination of both would do the job as you have proven, thank you!
Same as John I use am straps on each corner of the roof rack and it does not move at all and I travel 100s of mes with in the top of the van. I also have the ulti bar system and use the uprights to stop any side ways movement.
Thanks Dave will look into the Ulti bar system then, cheers!
The cam straps i use remain tight 6.5 foot black Dawa black buckle straps . In fact i find Two suffice .
I use them for securing ladders sometimes but they are also secured between the ulti bar stops .
They speed things up getting the ladders on and off in fact before i got these i kept getting ear ache off colleagues about the length of time it took me to sort my ladders out with the ladder clamps .
Always secure your henchman with a lock and chain if you dont already , very desirable for opportunists to steal .
Ladder clamp works fine, for years I took my 14ft henchman tripod on roof bars on my transit without any issue
Rhino roof bars with stops set so that when sliding the ladder on from the back it gets to a certain point and is gripped from the sides and can't slide forward. Then Chuck a couple of small ratchet straps over. Solid. Locked onto the roof bars with a bike lock.
It looks decent, but don't you try hitch racks like these.
I just use a couple of bungee straps, works perfectly if you get the sizing/length and positioning right, i hook to the ladder, then loop under the roof bar, over the ladder and under the bar again, hook to ladder.
Never moves and can't work loose, they don't need to be stupid tight/tensioned either.
