Help please to source Devon Churt

Hi there

I'm looking to rebuild a wall in what I believe are Devon Churt cobbles but sourcing is becoming a problem. I have found a supply of rough stone and one supplier who may be able to get them at around £350 per tonne. If that what they cost then so be it.

However having spent the day visiting various quarries around Exeter and Chard still no luck. Can any of you kind folks suggest where else I might look?

Many thanks

Simon

Take a look at the variuos stone that Stoneycombe quarry has to offer, also, theres a quarry called Zig -Zag, the latter is more than likely your best option, hope this helps

  • Dear both thanks for the suggestions - no joy as yet but will keep looking!

Actually I'm thinking of rebuilding a section in another stone which will free up enough to make the repairs eleswhere. But is a source of churt becomes available - hurray. Thanks again for taking the time to get back.

Hi Dan - did you mean to send me this as it relates to a topic in 2009? My internet was playing up whilst trying to access this site so perhaps something has got into the works?

Thanks Dan - in the end we sourced some from a yard just outside of Exeter. However after all that searching I decided against the job!. Good to know it's not a gremlin, although another reply has popped up. very strange
  • I've used the haulage services of Bob Hill's to ferry in required materials over 16 ton, and I've used the hi-ab grab service too.

As these haulers were middle men for most of my deliveries I've gently off hired their services period, the savings payed for a dog of a transit tipper of which I've brought back to life and works well for me.

all my waste away at 15 ton loads grabbed and removed to a licenced tip by Steve Brook Haulage, great service, competitive price.

Lately I've sifted all sub soil and carted off on the tipper to a dry lock up ready for Ramming earth with, win win all round.
