i'd like one but i hate the cost of heating the house let alone the drive. i have a bag of pebble dashing stone that i throw into the snow slush and ice and when it freezes the sharp stones give good grip,
if i did have a heated drive i'd have a log or coal boiler in the house to power it all and heat the house
good thinking.
The US site said there are two ways of doing it, one being an electrical wiring/heating grid. the other a plumbed in system. both pretty much the same as interior underfloor heating.

i put between £30 and £50 a week on the gas meter, a fraction is taken to re-pay the money i owe them, i'm sure with a heated drive i would need to run it 24/7 to keep it frost free. and when i drive off my drive i'd be driving on ice on the pavement anyway. my road is on a main road and its always gritted but last year the snow built up regardless of the grit. my car drove perfectly on it so i was ok but i dont see the point personally heating a driveway when the roads leading to it are bad. i know some say its for pedestrians getting to and from their car but in my opinion its a luxury gone too far.
you'd also have to be careful where the thawed ice and snow collected as its going to re-freeze and if the run off is onto a public pavement there is bound to be a lawsuit
Very true. I've read before that Bill Gates has one, i wonder if he worries about the run-off refreezing and causing a problem to pedestrians?? :-)

Why mess about - this is how you do it - a heated marble driveway! Don't think they have sold this place yet!
