Hand cleaning

Does anyone have any magic technique for getting hands clean?

It doesn't matter how heavily I scrub my hands the grime is ingrained, especially the sides of my thumbs and index fingers where the skin is hard.

I've tried Swarfega, wasing powder, sugar, even WD40 to no avail,

Now, it doesn't normally bother me but my better half has threatened me with a visit to a manicurist before the wedding in August..... and I know i shouldn't be such a caveman but.....i'd rather not!

So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

  • Andy you can buy these things called 'gloves' which fit over your hand and keep them clean and safe while working. That way you wouldnt have to wash so often ;)

My wife has used olive oil mixed with sugar on mine and i remember it did quite a good job. I cant wear gloves for weeding as it takes twice as long.

  • Nothing to do with being a man, just can't do stuff efficiently with gloves on. I have tried Chris honestly ;-)

A drop of Hypochlorine usually does the job.

  • Cheers Stuart, I'll put that on the list,

Hey Andy. Hypochlorine is an acid or chlorine I think. Not 100% sure though. I use it for washing down patios and flag stones etc, and cleaning the alloys on the cars. Gets my hands very clean afterwards.

You get it in 20ltr drums from the local farmer suppliers.

Farmers would use it for washing out the milking palour and bulk tanks.

Usally know just a Hypo. Costs about £12.00 for the 20ltr drum. I dilute it down when washing patios and flags before powerwashing them. Lifts dirt like nothing else.

Guess I should add a note of caution that I don't use it on a daily basis for cleaning my hands. I might not have any skin left if I did. Its handy for shifting ingrained dirt after a busy working week.

Swarfiga Andy, semi liquid grit soap always works a treat with used with a nail brush on difficult to shift stains. You could also try a puma stone for any stains the swarfiga cant shift.
