Getting rid of 'difficult' weeds

Hi allI am new here so apologies if this should have been a blog and not a discussion - wasn't sure which! Have read a few forum posts regarding weeds like ground elder/dandelions and mares tail. I thought i'd pass on my way of dealing with them.Ground Elder - if its growing within herbaceous perennials I sometimes put on a rubber glove, paint my fingers with glyphosate gel weedkiller and coat the ground elder leaves with it - therefore avoiding killing perennial plants off with weedkiller. Also, just following the roots of it and being really persistent pulling them up can work but needs to be done regularly. Occasionally I resort to spraying with weedkiller if there's nothing in the way.Mares Tail - quite an easy one to get rid of. Go around the garden and hit it gently with a hand fork - the aim is to bruise the stems not break them. Then spray with weedkiller - I use Resolva which works well. Mares Tail has a waxy coating which is why it sometimes seems resistant to weedkiller, bruising stems allows chemicals in to kill it off.Dandelions - in the summer when you are guaranteed 3 or 4 dry days and nights, I put a small mound of salt in the middle of the weed and the plant gradually dries out, the salt draws out the moisture, its a good one for lawns but weather must be dry or the salt will start to spread to surrounding area, which if its on a lawn is not a good idea. Have used this method for weeds in borders and gravel as well plus its environmentally friendly.
