Hi Steve, if you are subby-ing to a main contractor then you will be looking at around £100.00 -£120.00 per man per day. You yourself will be the only person who will know how long it will take you. I am presuming you have never done construction site work before, otherwise you wouldn't be asking the question. Bare in mind weather conditions and underfoot conditions at this time of year. Very hard, slow work when you are working in mud up to your ankles. Also, get a posthole borer on hire, 8-10'' auger (for 6 foot fencing and a 6'' auger for 4 foot fencing) and it will make life a lot lot easier if you get the work. You and your guys will also need your CSCS cards. Good luck with the quote.
PS: if you could negotiate a day rate rather than an all in quote, so much the better, you could very easily be out of pocket and over run on the job on a quoted price if you are not used to this type of work environment.
regards
Hi Brian,
Thanks for the response. Yes do lots of hard landscaping but this is a biggy! To be honest was being a bit lazy and hoping somebody would have a ballpark figure for me to work on! I've got a price sorted but was looking for a comparison. Also it's scheduled for 6 days, do you reckon it would be feasible in that time for a gang of 3 because I have serious doubts. ( concrete posts, gravelboards and 1.5m & 1.8m closeboard panels)

I think you would be struggling to do 300m in 6 days for 3 guys (18 man days). As mentioned in lots of recent threads I wouldn't get drawn in to 'what is the going rate'. Your pricing is particular to your business and the levels of its overheads and your profit expectations. The question is how much can you achieve in a day, multiply this by what you need to pay your guys and then add a % to contribute to overheads and profits. I reckon 158 (1.8m long) bays and 159 posts in three days is highly unlikely to be achieved. Also be wary of post augers. My extensive experience of one man augers, two man augers, excavator mounted augers is that they are ok if the soil is easy digging but you are better with a graft if the digging is hard!
