Dear All. My "spare" Hayter Harrier 48 died a horrible death today. It is 7 years old and been largely reliable, the main gripe was the grass collection.
The machine had traveled about a million miles but I will not replace it with another Hayter as I think that the newer machines just do not compare (I had until 2 weeks ago a 2009 Harrier 48 Pro which I have recently sold and never liked).
I thought I would be able to bolt a new engine onto the Hayter but my machinery supplier says that B&S do not make the side shaft engines anymore. A shame.
I recently purchased an Etesia Pro46 (ex-demo) from the Etesia open day. In short I have been nothing but impressed with it. The grass box is smaller (52L vs 75L on the Hayter) but it packs more in, collects in every condition I have used it in, and the quality of cut is amazing.
I was thinking I might replace the Hayter with an Etesia Pro51 and I would like to know from the people who have upgraded from a Pro46 to a Pro51. The mower will be used to cut everything from a postage stamp up to about 1.5 acres.
Is it worth going for the variable drive and is the slightly wider cut worth it?
My Pro46 also stripes slightly, will the Pro 51 do the same?
Many thanks

Thanks for the help on the b&S engine. My original questions remain answered though :(
