I don't know if anyone could advise me on this issue. I have a DR Brush mower that was ghost walking. When the Dead mans handle was released, it continued moving. Took it into a DR dealer for it to be repaired. I was concerned when the mechanic informed me he had never taken the gearbox off of one of these before. It looked a difficult job. It transpires the drive belt (belt joined onto the gearbox) remained engaged and a new belt was ordered. When it arrived, they could not fit it and eventually found out that it needed an adjustment kit that had been developed to rectify this problem. After 6 weeks of having my machine, it is now ready for collection. My concern is that excluding testing, they are charging me 6 hours labour for removal of the belt, fit adjustment kit and replace belt. To me, this seems quite an excessive amount of time. Is anyone in a position to advise me? If I am incorrect in my thoughts, fine, I'm more than happy to pay. I just feel that for a small machine, 6 hours is a long time.

Thanks.

If the manufacturer has to develop a kit to solve a problem they created from poor design surely that's some kind of manufacture warranty issue recall repair, Like cars?

Once tock me four hours to replace a gear box on a al-co mower, because I had to take the whole back end off the machine including handles.

I'm always secptical when comes to the cost of repairs. But I'd still rather keep the peace with my dealer. Thankfully I haven't needed them often, I do my own repairs.

    • I totally agree and had a good discussion with the dealer about a recall. Sadly, in the mower world, it does not appear to be the same. I actually contacted the manufacturer about the time and they said if it is the first time the dealer has undertaken this task, the timing is about right. As I have now paid the bill, I effectively paid for some of their training on the job. I used it the other day and to be fair, it did an excellent job and the issue has been resolved.

In the future, I am going to try and undertake some of my own repairs. I'm not a great mechanic, but, I'm sure I can do some of the basics.
