Different types of strimmer cord

We're in need of some new topics!! Has anyone tried the various different shapes of Stihl strimmer cord.......... they seem to do hexagonal, square, a quiet one, and your usual round one......... perhaps more. I've used the square and the round and can't honestly say I've noticed any difference obvious difference. Now the bad news..... my poor cat that sits in the lawnmower bag in my picture was flattenedd by a car last week and I'm going to have to change the picture!!...... and get another cat.

  • I'll have to try the whisper line..... Stihl do one too. Perhaps Husquvana use a harder plastic?...... always used Stihl stuff up to now.

Sorry about your cat, gutting to lose one yet alone for it to be run over.

I use husquvarna whisper line, this is not normally a stock item but a husquvarna dealer can order it in.

I will use no other cord, I have tried virtually all the different cords available and the whisper line lasts far farr longer and as its name is quieter I buy it by the 240m reel.
  • Landscapes Direct do one, called Land X twist cut.

It, also is a quiet line and price is good too. I use this, normal Stihl round line and Stihl square line, along with blades...
  • I also use whisper. It feels smooth, quiet and strong. Use 2mm (green) on the small strimmer for edging and 3mm (red) in the echo brushcutter.
  • I use Stihl 3mm round, It does the job, I have no -ve comments about it. I used to use Oregon hexagonal stuff with metal bits in it until Browns stopped stocking it. That was good stuff.

Sorry to hear about your cat!
  • I have a big roll of 3mm kramp which is still going strong .I loaded my head with some domestic stuff from a donut and the ends split pretty much straight away.My local dealer gave me some Nylasaw line which I have used when doing overgrown grass "you know oh we cut it last year but it seems to have grown again "LOL.That line really helps in that situation as it lifts and cuts grass that just wants to fall over. After the success of that line I invested in the Oregon JETFIT head pack abt £70 for a larger brushcutter that I have ,I have not trialled it yet but am going to use it on an overgrown grass job this week if it can stop raining .The only problem I have with this is the big brushcutter is such an awkward shape with cow horns that I can not take it out as a matter of course and need to know that I will be using it .I keep some nylasaw handy to use in my standard strimmer for overgrown stuff .
  • its good , quiet , a bit too strong some times - u can get it half that price on offer ! 240 meters for about £20

  • The first lot I bought was the Oregon nylium star line which seems to do the trick but just to mix things up I'm now using the Oregon duo-line with the inner plastic core. They were both the same price from my local husqvarna dealer (about £30). Both seem good but the duo line seems to go a bit longer before it breaks off.
