Cost effective way of dealing with spoil

We're quoting on a garden with a large slope and the design requires the removal of 64 cubic metres of spoil.

About 20% will be topsoil, which we'll keep on site, but the remaining 80%, or 52 cubic metres, needs to be got rid of.

The access won't allow access for a grabber lorry, so apart from about a dozen skips, is there a more cost effective way of getting rid of it?

What about using a tracked skip loader or small dumper to move the spoil to a temp staging area at front of property (lined with disposal ply sheets) and then bring in 8 wheel grab lorries?

Disposing of that much via skips will be expensive due to bulking and round here, skip lorries get very nervous of 8yrd skips filled and 'compacted' with subsoil - Every seen their hydrualics let go......;;-)

  • What are you digging out with?  If using a 3cx or similar you'll just need tippers, rather than grabbbers.

Way cheaper for a tipper, easy to load at roadside, with JCB, depending on distance to job...

  • Thanks for the info gents. I think Ro-Ro may be a workable solution, access permitting.
  • Find a local farmer who has some ditchs he wants filling in / hollows leveling - may take a few calls - I've had one rake 20m2 for free before, and he still asks for more as he needsmuch more (In yorkshire).
