PRO

I got my website this winter just gone (still not finished it) in order to get enough work to expand and take on an employee. I thought it would be gradual with enquiries coming in slowly until my website and company became better known.

The fact is that i was not prepared for the flood of enquiries i have received in the last two months. This has put me in the position of having to find an employee soon if i am to service all these potential new clients. I have little spare time as it is at the moment so don't know how i can find the time for this and i honestly don't know where to start.

Maybe i should use a sub- contractor for a while. How many hours per week could you give them and still satisfy HMRC that they are self employed?

This flood of new enquiries does make me feel happy and is a reward for the time i put into my company image and doing my own website.

  • Well done on getting all the extra enquiries and good luck with dealing with it all.

I think you can employ someone as a subcontractor and as long as they are registered with HMRC as self-employed should be ok. Phone their advice line and they'll let you know.  I know a few tree surgeons whose major income is from one company and they fill in the gaps with their own jobs here and there.

I've only put a website up this year and am surprised how many people have found it - even an 80 year old woman with an ipad!

    All the best

    Justin
