  • Hi i pay £30 a month to my accountant and he does my book keeping and end off year tax return for me, im based in the north west if that helps.

    1. I pay £365 for my accounts to be verified and the tax returns on my behalf. Don't forget it's tax deductible.
  • I'm in surrey, I have just paid £360 for verifiecation of accounts & tax returns. Never even met my accountant. As Andrew says its tax deductable & this year the chancellor has had to give me £1.5k back & nothing to pay til July 21. Which along with the SA grant has come in useful as been laid up on & off for the last eight wks due to CV19

  • Hi Im David

Im a small scale self employed Gardening sole trader. Their is only me in my business no employees.

I do all my own accounts and my tax return. I use Excel on my computer you can use it free through MS One Drive. Study the government website well if you are interested, its full of useful information. Accountants are tax deductable, but this does not mean you are getting their service for free.I just prefer to do my own accounts. Best of luck David

  • doing all my own books on quickbooks and letting accountant do end of year accounts and send self assesment away for £600 doesnt seam such a great deal for soletrader anymore reading some of the prices here

    • Just to clarify my earlier post. I pay £365 for book keeping and annual tax return by the accountant plus I pay an annual subscription of £144 for Quick Book. So in total just over £ 500 for the whole package.

We employ the services of a Chartered Accountant who is fantastic . The HMRC rules are incredibly complicated these days and an accountant understands all rules and costs around £1500 pa

we also employ Family members to carry out the day to day booking and invoicing

  • I pay about £350 ish (Midlands)  he does every thing my books and files the tax return.  I think its worth getting a professional, as you are less likely to be investigated and he saves more than he costs.  That said I believe its fairly straight forward to do your self its just yet another job to do when you could be out earning!  I'm a sole trader no employees.

  • I am a sole trader in north wales, last tax return my accountant charged 280.00, he give me his spreadsheet to put my figures onto which is now quick for me as using it a few years now. I sort paperwork into order and give it to him and he files my tax. Good accountant and had no problems so far.

  • Hi I pay £50 a month and I am in the North West. It seems a lot but they have saved me a lot more over the years. They keep up to date on changes to capex etc which we mere mortals just don't have the time to follow. I also found that HMRC seem to deal better with them than they ever did with me. I was a landscaper so there were a lot of receipts to go through.
