Get the best out of your photographs

It is great to see that people are uploading photographic examples of their work, but a small observation, keep an eye on the actual title you give them.

By default the network will use the file name as the title, so that's why you will see names such as DS3745, but this is not helping you out when it comes to search.

I've written in the past on how to get the best from your photographs, there are a bucket full of tips there.

Also don't forget you can place your photographs elsewhere, such as back on your own website.

If you gather together a number of photos into an album (click on Photos just below the header image and you'll see the option My Albums) this lets you pick a selection of pics.

Once you've made your choice of photographs you'll be given the option to 'embed' the album, copy this small line of code and place it elsewhere on the internet.

So it could be placed back on you own website, with an explanation of the work you carried out on the project featured in the pics - a great way to show potential customers just what you can do.

Any questions just shout.

    >> would i then need to rename photos on my computer, then re upload them to this site?

No, when you upload a photograph to the network you can give each picture its own title and a short description of what it's about.

One thing that can help is to shrink the file size of images so they load quicker, digital camera images are usually around A4 in size which is fine if you are printing but online they can be slow.

The easiest way to 'shrink' them is to just reduce the size of the image, so for a landscape image it could be around 500 pixels wide, for a portrait image around 400 pixels deep.

Just make sure you save the re-sized image with a new file name as you don't want to lose the original photo.

    >> i have all the photos on my gallery page would i embedd them to there or a blog page?

You can embed the code anywhere within any web page, and to more than one destination if you so choose, it would be particularly suited to a blog post with some explanatory text alongside.

Just taken a quick look, and I would recommend linking back to your own membership page on Landscape Juice, which is https://landscapejuice.ning.com/profile/niallgibb or you can link back to your own page of photographs.

And if I was putting this much effort in to improve my web presence, I think it would be time to change the Homer Simpson pic to one of myself ;-)
