The BBC needs to take its own advice and do a bit of research into who it employs!

I despise programmes like Roguetraders and this does little to change my mind.

  • Thats not the best! The most frustrating thing is the programmes cast all tradesmen in a bad light, for example taking a deposit is quite often neccessary, however they do quite frequently mention not to part with money until the job is done, I believe even staged payment is frowned upon, realistically I would have thought quite a few of us have to do this, I certainly do as my builders merchant account limit is lower than the materials, without stumping up the cash its very hard to get around it, I have evn turned 2 jobs down in 6 years for this very reason, as i have mentioned before there are many programmes out there with a similar nature but can anyone think of one that is aimed at rougue customers?

  • Lets hope thats the last we hear of that pair!  The idea of catching out the scammers is great, but the way they went about it was an insult to our intelligence - I think Allwright had a dressing up fetish.

  • Too true - many rogue customers out there! These programmes are too one sided and cast us all in a bad light - makes me very angry!

  • Couldn't agree more.

The deposit argument drives me mad, of course don't hand over every penny but how does a tradesman buy the materials for the job without a deposit - out of their own money, ridiculous.

I once heard Matt Allwrong advising people to ask their tradesman for copies of the receipts for materials to make sure they weren't being ripped off. Wrong in so many ways.

  • ha, what a joke!

not just our tax but our tv licence fee too.

  • Do you not have monthly accounts with your suppliers, Andy?  Materials used on say the 1st of the month dont have to be paid for nearly 2 months.

  • What? I had to read it twice as I thought my english was not good enough to understand it,

Sounds very stupid of him to do that, looks like he got a good job and now what , well done that it was proved.

this is the good side of recession ... a home clean of all these things.

  • The Daily Mail, not my first choice for objective reporting, it will be interesting to see how it all ends.

Having said that there is often hypocrosy in those who preach to us, parliament and the churches are other good examples.

The issue of these programmes devaluing the trade or tradesmen in general is a real problem there seem to be no programmes promoting good work where names are named or people commended.

We have always taken deposits unless it is a stock item then it's payment on delivery, except of course regular trusted account customerx.

  • Phil how right you are...these programmes have very little to do with the truth, how about doing a programme about the fantastic work I see day in day out by hard working professionals in our industry giving them a platform to shine.

The BBC seems to have jumped on the band wagon with the rest of the cheap rate TV shows like Cowboy Builders, Dom Littlewoods Faking it, and they look over their shoulder and one of their own is faking it...I wonder if they will do a programme on him...I doubt it.
