  • hi not got Ego mowers but I only use battery mowers for several years now, even on some right rough big lawns, whatever the brand be prepared for some serious investment in battery packs to make it feasible !

I lifted my Honda mower up over a three foot retaining wall this morning and I'm definitely getting to old to do so,so I can definitely see the advantage of having a battery mower as an alternative, though perhaps not as a replacement.

    • hi Andrew, battery mowers vary in weight, even without the battery packs fitted, some like the Ego's are actually quite heavy. I need to use ramps to safely get my largest Bosch Pro ones onto my pickup. But other machines that i use can literally be lifted up with 1 finger. A light weight battery mower can make jobs which were economically unviable, into money spinners. I have several postage stamp lawns in adjacent gardens with difficult access and varying levels where the lightweight mower can be carried between without issue, rapidly deployed and leaving a top notch finish

  • I bought an EGO last year due to medical reasons. It's light enough to be lifted into the van (without the battery in it). The advantages are that it's quiet and there's no local pollution when in use. However, over the last 18 months I have noticed that the batteries don't do as much when I first had it. When I started I could mow 5 lawns (customers) but now I do approximately 3.5 lawns on one battery. Would I buy another battery mower? Possibly but maybe another brand. The EGO hedge cutter is good by the way and if I move the mower on next season, I will keep the batteries for the hedge cutter.

  • I've a few EGO products. All of which I'm very happy with. But I don't have a mower. I just don't think battery is quite there yet for commercial use mowers. When you take in to account the cost of the bare unit. Then add in multiple batteries you'd need and the cost of those batteries, which like all batteries will gradually deplete over time. I think petrol power is the only way to go when it comes to commercial use mowers. That may change in the future. But this is my take on it as things stand now

  • I have an ego hedge trimmer, I bought the Honda launch model and then just removed the tab so the batteries would transfer. Happy to rate that.

I was unsure about getting rid of my petrol mower so bought an Energizer for the smaller lawns. I bought a spare battery. The warranty ended 1st June 23 while it was on the mower. Several weeks later, I went to charge and the battery has broken down. It must have only been charged 25 times. Energizer won't do anything to help. Even though with a battery it is more than possible to miss the deadline. I'm going to try and take it further as their response is to spend another £100 taking the total spend to £500.

I can't tell you how annoyed I am with them. It's had a dodgy wheel. The electrics went. The flap at the back popped it's springs. So for £300 do not spend your money with these people. I'm furious.

I would hope ego mowers are good with my hedge trimmer experience and only wish I'd just gone with them. I doubt they'd have created an issue over the duff Chinese battery......

    • yes hadn't heard of Energizer mowers before but googled them quickly and could tell instantly from design of it it's a generic far eastern product, bit of a mine field this cordless, took me a lot of trial and error to get to where I am with it now, I have also done the removing the tab thing with the 56V Honda / Ego, I use the Honda strimmer quite a lot as it fits nicely inbetween the power and capabilities of 2 Stihl battery models I use

    • Unfortunately DIY tools are unlikely to stand commercial use, and are unlikely to have a professional use warranty.

      • Using diy tools for commercial work is a bit of a grey area, many battery machines I need to work quickly and efficiently do not really have a pro equivalent that is not cumbersome or heavy, if it exists at all, I am accepting of lower lifespan if used hard and intensively, but some kit has proven extremely robust, for example my lighter Bosch lawnmowers the plastic bushes in the wheels wear out after a few seasons, yet the actual motors and batteries going strong after loads of abuse, I also have a Greenworks 40 Volt sucker which I use to collect those irritating bits where a blower is the wrong tool, seriously impressed with it despite draining batteries fast, a short run time is often all I need. As for warranties, personally it's a bit of a who dares wins situation for me, depending on how little I paid compared to how much usage I get, I'm not overly concerned about the guarantee side as I have learned what equipment is trustworthy and how far it can be pushed

    Yes and yes

I have even used mine on jobs where the Toro failed starting on the highest cut first.

    certainly good mowers 👌
