my fencing suplier does them but only on 2.4 and 3.0m ones, but they are easy eough to cut properly yourself
Done a bit of searching online and found some suppliers that do shaped or scarfed ends on the arris rail

AVS Fencing Mortice Arris
when going into existing posts, one end (the end you can see from what would be the main viewing angle) can just be inserted into the mortices.
the other end can still be adzed or scarfed, and can be inserted into a timber plate (for instance 4x2" to the same height as the feather edge) that has mortices cut and is bolted to the other post, the timber plate allows the adzes at both ends to be located and then the plate is just slid into position on the post and bolted/coach screwed.
usually when you see this done, a timber plate is used on both posts and the arris is cut square and nailed in or those horrible metal brackets are often used, but you can mortice it if you like.
most decent fencing places will adze them for you (unless they just buy the stuff in), you can do it yourself, but it is time consuming and a right fiddle with measuring, cutting and chiseling
Spoke to the client today and they have relented and i will now use the galvanised mortice adapters. After speaking to a neighbour who recently had similar work done, they, the client decided the metal brackets were a cheaper i.e. much quicker for me to install option and more robust.
Still, you learn something everyday, so thanks for the replies
