  • "...which is the best mower now for this model for us to use..."
Everyone here will give you a different answer as so many factors will determine your choice.
For the first time in decades we've dropped Hayter in favour of a 22" Masport Rotaroller. It's too early to give a report on the Masport but so far no problems and it's in use nine hours a day all week. We buy new every two years but found in recent times Hayter would go to any length not to honour their warranty using the old cop-out, misuse! Our last Hayter lasted four weeks before the drive packed up and it took a threat of court action to get the dealer to repair under guarantee.
The modus operandi that worked for us was to get the best price for a chosen machine online and then approach local dealers to see if they could match or get near to the price. Many do. Far better and cheaper in the long run to establish a relationship with a local dealer for when a machine needs reparing 'yesterday'.
  • bought my harrier 48 autocut 4 years ago (second hand) £150 - just had 1st service in my use.
    . i think it was 2002 year ...........

never a problem ever............ i have 5 other mowers and nothing touches them for various use on average private gardens in this country imo.
  • i like the split roller as you can turn it on a 'point' , why did you prefer all in one?

im looking at the latest: Hayter hayter harrier 48 (496) 19" cut self propelled pro roller rotary mower.
not the silver one , but i like the hammerite coating and the bars&bumper though on yours.

    it has the same engine.

Robin I have the pro version and its a good machine even if it does suffer with wet grass collection on the longer length grass cuts. I find on regular cuts its fine as long as its got a clean deck and the grass bag is cleaned.
I went for the pro as it has the better briggs engine and no rear split roller where the other 48 models have split rollers and a different grade engine.
No problems so far with the mower and it starts very easy. While it does not have BBC it does have the crank protection.
Oh it also feels nice in the hand, the balance was much better than the other mowers I looked at which included the Deere 19'' model which really felt heavy in the hand.
  • Also consider resale value.
Our machines are kept for two years, first year in daily use, second year as spare. After two years a Hayter will achieve about half it's cost new on ebay (because of the name) whilst with our latest new machine-Masport-I doubt we'll achieve a third of the cost new on resale.
