1000 metres of turf to lay

Currently carrying out a large project and just wondered how much you would charge to lay a 1000 metres of turf and how many days it would take two men. All the soil has been rotivated and its on a steep incline. It needs raking level and turfing. The turf is £1.10 metre delivered. Thanks.

  • With the machine and rake man  you will have it level in less than a day.

You could do with a 3rd person/labourer  to help lug the rolls to you

2 men & labourer better to go for it in one long day, whilst its best to get turf on day you lay, unless supplier will do a 7am first drop get the turf last drop day before have all the prep work done in advance get to site first thing and get on with it.

You will all sleep well after running up and down that hill all day.

As for price you know your day rates per man(long day so price 1.5 days a man + prep leveling day) plus profit margin there after

Extra long rolls would be hard work on this gradient.

  • I'd allow about 2/3days for levelling out, stone removal etc and then 5/6days for laying.  Someone can still be levelling in front of you while two start laying the turf.

Might be tempted to get two deliveries of turf, 1 at beg and one 2/3days later so its freshly cut and not yellow/dried out.  Supplier should be willing to do a deal with you on 1000sqm for delivery, I charge 2.50 a roll and then labour/profit on that.

  • call it a week maximum . turf £1100 cost £200 x 5 = £1000 £2100 approx to get the jobeasy money . i guess its in stoke so my prices are realistic & fair ...

if you cant price it , should you be doing it ?

  • There is no room for error with this pricing 2 men £1000.00 for a week only £100 each a day before all X's not the way to last long, soon go bust

  • I will tell you at the end if you would like to guess?  There may be a prize for the winner.

  • Dont forget its allready  been rotorvated. Garden 4u,s price is the most sensible yet, id be looking for £2800+vat if they want it doing in summer. You dont need skilled staff to lug rolls of turf about, just a couple of labourers who are "between jobs" so to speak on £80 per day and one experienced gardener to manage the job.

Id love to be a fly on the wall in the developers office if you sent in a quote for 8 grand.

  • The streets must be paved with gold where you live Rob, £8k! No chance.

well, a rock bottom, and I mean rock bottom price to lay turf  is £10 per m2. You could discount this by whatever you want. But you are probably looking at a weeks prep, a weeks laying, and then irrigating it in.

If that is the price of your turf I would double that to at least £2 per roll, so think about it this way Turf at least £2k, 2 men two weeks labour, plus after care, £8k plus doesnt sound like a bad price.

Of course the developers them selves could do it cheaper, but they build houses, you lay lawns.

  • This is not a new development the house is seven years old. Next tier starts on monday 1000 mtrs back breaking.
