working on sundays

I HAVE SPENT THE AFTERNOON OUT & ABOUT, & WHILST I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST ANYONE WORKING, ITS A BIT SAD TO SEE DRIVEWAY CONTRACTORS WHO ARE IN IT TO MAKE A QUICK BUCK WORKING AND MAKING LOADS OF NOISE DOING DRIVEWAYS.

USING WACKER PLATES AND DRILLS I THOUGHT WAS'NT ALLOWED IN MOST BOROUGHS AS THE LAW IS THERE TO PROTECT PEOPLE FROM NOISE THAT MIGHT HARM THE ENVIRONMENT ETC.

I KNOW FROM PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WE HAVE TO SHUT DOWN  RESIDENTIAL SITES AFTER 1PM ON A SATURDAY AS THE LAW ENFORCES NO NOISE AFTER 1 PM WITH STRICT FINES.

WHAT ARE YOU GUYS THOUGHTS ON SUNDAY WORKING!!!

  • Well I've just got back home, soaking wet from hosing down after a long weekend digging 6 mtrs of mushroom compost into sussex clay beds including removal and re-siting of all pants - groan groan!! Sunday's I'm afraid are a necessary evil for me at the moment having lost 3 weeks of work in the snow and still playing catch-up. However, totally agree with what you say about the quick buck guys and the noise they make. I too thought there were regulations about noise and at least my work was quiet - apart from the moans and groans of pain :)
  • Oh, PLANTS not PANTS!!

  • Would be a bit hard to plant pants>>>> I totally appreciate having to work as I too have had to do the sunday shift.. The law though does need enforcing with regards to noise abatement....
  • I would say not, I know of the firm fairly well as they work on hard selling (good cash price) then they start, the work isn't too bad & they get loads of business, but nevertheless there is some Irish traveller/romanian input from the workforce which I have no issue with..... however the law has yet to stop them.....
  • I have been working today, mainly commercial work, weekends are the only times we can get to some of the hedges and gutters etc, also done our hopefully last leaf clearance of the season. Ill be working 7 days a week now until October due to playing catch up, it wont be long until the grass starts to grow again!
  • You sound like a fun girl Angela...

We've been maintaining our big Sunday car-park today.... only time there's no cars – but that's one great thing about being self-employed – we can have a rest day in the week if we want.
  • Out there today like many of you...not much noise from me apart from heavy breathing and the gentle ring of a post whacker I was using !!

Would prefer not to work Sunday but got to make up for lost work, plus things have gone balistic since the thaw, so no complaints really
  • I personally don't work Sundays now, they are my family day - I had enough of that when working in Garden Centres and I had to do every other weekend.
I do work Saturdays, usually to do client consultations so that I can meet those who work full time. This works well for me as my Son gets time with his Dad, and I don't have to pay for childcare.

The main thing is that as we have our own business's we can work the hours that suit us. - As many or as few as are needed/ wanted for the business. - It all depends on what your priorities are, - for this Contractor, getting the job finished (probably so they can get paid) is the be all and end all. For me, working around my family is important.
If you know what is important to you -i.e working when access is easy, fitting in any jobs you've missed out on, giving good customer service by working when they are home and can talk to you - then working at the weekend is fine.
  • 'spose it depends how large the pants are :):)

    What can I say ? .

I had a carefully positioned pant on the blurb of my Home page business website for a couple of months.
This can alter the atmosphere of the garden - apparently.
  • just a big panty woman!
