Working abroad

Hi
I was just wondering if anyone had experience of freelancing abroad. I've got the possibility of doing some garden design work with a (local) friend in Bangalore, India, but just don't know how much of a nightmare the paperwork would be. So I just thought I'd see if anyone here had any experience of this... He's looking at changing direction in his work and setting up a garden business of some sort, and has a lot of experience of the plants that will grow locally - obviously a big gap in my knowledge!... (but I've stayed there 4 times so far and have a bit of an understanding of the culture thanks to many local friends)
Thanks

  • If you need any help on your trip I'm up for a bit of traveling not sure what I can offer but sounds very interesting
  • Thanks Chris - South India is wonderful!.... It's actually advice about the logistics of working in India that I'm looking for at this stage - whether I can just be a consultant employed in this country, but visiting India occassionally, or whether I have to get an India work visa - rather a nightmare!... and any other stuff I need to know legally...

  • We do bits and pieces of work overseas .. and the only hiccup we hit was ensuring our insurance covered us and also the travel/sickness insurance was in place in case something 'went wrong'.. a working visa need to be in place in order to be working but your friend could possibly provide the necessary paperwork/invitations etc for you on this part ... but apart from that all great experience ..go for it :o)

  • Thanks Anne - the problem is that getting a work visa for India can be a bit of a nightmare to say the least!.... Having quite a few false starts as any advice I see online is for big companies... I'll keep searching
