  • Yew tree - in my throat whilst cutting the hedge. i was coughing and gagging etc for ages , my eyes were watering for 5 mins.........
i didnt know then it is poisonous and kills sheep ?
  • Ripped my finger-nail off (except a tiny thread) whilst in the rain/ rushing to untie mower from my trailer - thinking of money !!! - blood..........and ow
  • I was up a ladder at my old man's house butchering a cherry laurel when I had a lapse of concentration and cut into my left thumb right near the knuckle. The claret quickly started to pour and I drove myself to A & E who (very painfully) examined to cut looking for tendon damage. Sure enough, next day I was booked in for plastic surgery which was quite embarrasing as everybody else in the waiting room literally had their arms hanging off (bank holiday gardening injuries).

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: be very wary when using small, curved serated pruning saws - one wrong look and the b*****ds will cut you!
  • Shane Kneebone, who won't like me saying this, got a really nasty burn on his cheek from a pasty. How Cornish is that.
I once knocked myself out when iron bar i was using bounced off a rock onto my forehead.
My wife used to work in specialist unit for amputations in London - most common injury was taking a few fingers off with a cheap jigsaw.
I like this thread but don't start posting videos
  • by the way £16000 losing a finger - how many of you are tempted?
  • Almost tempted but when I crushed the thumb it realy hurt so I dont know If I want to gothrough it again!

  • You can't be too careful with training people who you hire. I've had a lot of experience with H&S training, RAs and the legalities of blame. I used to scoff at it all but now find it very relevant and good to understand.
