Yes, get a friendly farmer/estate management business with a side mounted flail arm on a tractor and sub it to them :-)...Just like you see them doing down country lanes...Or pass the job by....
There is one possible answer, use a long reach Stihl Kombi hedge trimmer with the Carbon Fibre extension pole fitted, however not sure that would do it if you can't get to both sides.
p.s you going to map this as well :P:P:P
However do they end up with a hedge that wide and how has it been cut in the past?.... that's the key. I know it's hard to say to a customer that you can't do a particular job however after many years, I've come to realise that some jobs really aren't worth the hassle when there's plenty of "nice" work about. As Gary says..... pass it on...... preferably to someone you don't like. Of course the other other drastic alternative if feasible is to narrow the hedge down to a manageable width.
Apparently the previous gardeners used to climb on top of hedge on boards, which I've told them we won't be doing its worth 10k the job so do t want to pass it by
Think the only solution I see is to reduce width
When I went to look at the job there was some tree guys doing the hedge with the telescopic sthil chainsaw with a hedge trimmer on it
Which they have modified
Sthil advise you not to do it
Gary my mapping days are over must of been the wet weather to much time to think
I know the CF extension piece is not officially supported on the Kombi Hedge trimmer.
The guys you saw were probably using a Stihl HT75 system having replaced the 12" loping chainsaw head with an articulating hedge trimmer head from a Kombi system.
Again, a bit of a "bitsa" and probably not supported by Stihl...:-)
Sell the concept of some hard, restorative hedge pruning - 1 face at a time ?
By the way, what is the hedge ? [edit] just re-read OP - so ok, it should take a good prune then if fed ?
The beauty (?) of the HT75 pole pruner approach, I think, is that it is extendable to 4m and is CF so is not so weighty as the Kombi + extension bars.
I will have to give the tree guys a ring see what they say thanks
Think that's basically the same item but with a 4Mix engine. Not even sure if HT75 is still current then.
Most of that 'kit' is somewhat 'modular' but maybe not approved/endorsed by Stihl (side step a good Stihl Tech at your repair shop and ask ;-)
Also, you can hire HT's at a good hire shop....Oops my Kombi hedgetrimmer head just dropped onto the shaft by accident. Darn.... Just saying :P:P:P
