  • Very compact, great versatility of a down pipe, whats the combined weight of you trailer and what means do you use to drag your tools around?

Years ago I bought a small doughnut van with all the equipment, sold the mixer, fryers, sink online etc online, shelved the unit out, rigged up with a gas heater and used as an office / drying room for winter months.

turns out to be a very handy tool.
  • Shogun swb but the trailer is not heavy. Can't be more than 500kg max. There is more in there than you can see ! There is also a small cultivator with scarifier attachment, drop speader etc. Even room for a Paul style Fatmax toolbox !. Gradually I have evolved the layout so that I can get to everything I need quickly. Then when work is over I have a nice clean vehicle to use for the pub etc.

  • very nice......... as long as no one nicks the whole lot in one go!! I always thought one of those Horse boxes would be good as you can even stand up in them.
  • I'm thinking down the same tracks here Geoff, my whole livelihood in a box with a tow hitch on, you may have the fandangle locking instrument, if an opportunist spots the amount of kit you have consolidated in a portable box, and they want it, they'll have it, if it were my tool box I spend far too many hours checking it's still there.

Is that a Polish or Nertherlands number plate?

    be safe.
  • Irish Plate !. The trailer lives inside a garage which is alarmed. I sunk a length of anchor chain 1'' tensile links into the concrete. It goes through the chassis & around the back axle. I have 5 alert neighbours with 4 shotguns !.

I put a battery powered alarm in the trailer - Doberman perimeter alarm. It is ideal when I am working in the rear of a property as it can be set with a remote keyfob & has a PIR.

I reckon that this setup is the most secure. No one can see what is in there & I am not carrying tools around when I don't need to. A mate copied the idea & he has a huge lump of angle iron that locks in his drive. In a way it is harder to nick than a van & I always lock the trailer hitch when it is connected.

Oh & there is a wooden lid that encloses the toolbox.
  • Love it and you can use the car for other things...I dithered recently on a 22*10*6ft trailer with ramp and missed it, would have been great for trees, large bamboos.... You can never have too much kit.
  • I was using the drain pipe long before young Paul was gardening !. I live in a very rural & peaceful spot but I am cautious. Before I moved here I knew plenty of guys who had gear stolen. My mate decided to take on a young lad only to find him & his mates trying to break into his van at 3am. I know another contractor who was driving through Bournemouth. As he stopped at some lights some lads pulled up alongside & pinched his brushcutter out of his trailer. He didn't realise until he got home.

I had the trailer for years & never really used it as it was impossible to crawl to get stuff in or out. The Eureka moment was hinging the lid & I have had loads of people asking where I got it.

The reason for posting now is that it offers a cheap alternative for people who can't afford to run a van & a car.
  • I have attached lengths of the stuff to the walls of my house, and have found it be ideal in getting the rainwater from the roof to the drains. That's my idea.
