What do you think of these flyers?

Got some new flyers made up recently and delivered about 600 of them about 2 weeks ago, normally i get around a 3% return on flyers but with this batch it has been very poor. Im not sure wether its down to the flyer design or just the time of the year. What do you think? Im trying to focus mainly on tree work with these flyers, i have another design for spring focusing more on the grass cutting/landscaping side of things.

  • I like your flyer Chris - it covers simply what you want to offer at this time and is supplemented by a good action shot. Possibly the time of year; i'm currently leaflet dropping myself and a similar return rate with me. I would hope that some hold the leaflet and call you when they believe they will need your services - we know that there's plenty to do in Feb especially cutting back before the nesting season etc but homeowner may wait until they would normally get the mower out.

  • Hi Chris

I like the design but i have one major concern you mention conifers topped and faced, i dont know whether this has been a topic in the past but topping a tree is the biggest mistake you can ever do, there has been endless debates, talks and lectures on topping a tree, not only is it frowned upon by professional arborist orginisasions but, topping is dangerous for the tree, because of decay, they become prone to storm damage  and if you carry out this technique you become liable if anythink happens, like damage to a property of a person, trust me other arborist will tell you the same thing sorry to be a pain but if a flier came through my door with that stated topping on it i would stay well clear of the company and warn my friends aswell.

  • Looks good, i hope it yields good rewards! How are things in Lisburn?

Benjamin, what are the tens if not hundreds of thousands of people with leylandii hedges supposed to do if they can't be topped? I hear the oldest one is currently at 130ft and still going.

  • Chris, I would make the services type in lower case, and your company name at the top a bit more formalised with a logo beside it.

Ben - Chris is talking about confier hedges.

  • I think your referring to 'topping' as opposed to 'reductions' and i would somewhat agree with you in relation to trees but conifer hedges HAVE to be topped at some point and it does them no harm whatsoever.

  • Think it must be the time of year, Chris, can't see anything much wrong with the flyer. Particularly like the 'headless' action shot!

Would only suggest minor changes. Concur with Dan, move your logo to the top, and put the services list in lower case.

Also add your email address to the contact details.

    Good luck.

  • I too would want name and logo more dominant so that your business sticks in people's minds, even if they don't contact you immediately off the back of this flier.  Fliers are never a lost cause if well designed and part of an ongoing marketing strategy. People will hopefully link your flier, seeing your trucks, and noticing any other advertising together in their mind so that they will think of you first when they need garden/tree services.
Wouldn't worry about the flier though, they look professionally done.
I'm sure you're not struggling for work. All the best with more bookings anyway.
  • Flyer looks OK to me, Keep it simple always a good way to go, I have been out today dropping off flyers and certainly no signs of new  growth on lawns or hedges yet. Like Andy I  am not anticipating much response  at moment but know from last year that prospective customers do keep flyers till they reckon job needs doing.

  • Clear & simple is the key to this kind of thing! Seen loado of people starting to cut their lawns in the last week or so here in mid wales! Still a bit quiet yet though as you would expect really!

  • hi guys i understand the job of reducition in regards to conifers and thats fine, its just the terminology i personally feel is wrong, instead of topping it should be hedge reduction, ive even heard of hedge lopping which would be more suitable, dont get me wrong people do use the term topping in regards to conifer hedges but i feel using the word topping send the wrong messages as more people are aware of the meaning of topping, like i said sorry to cause so much contreversy about the term.

Somethink i have just notice about the leaflet, you mention you wanted to focus on tree services, well ive noticed the services you mention only have 3 tree services and the rest of them are not tree relatet as to speak, you are missing one vital service if not the biggest selling point is your tree inspection, my company advertises free tree inspections, yes it does take up some time but its a great selling point it gives you the chance to talk to the house owner and usually results in a job from the talk, do note i  only drop leaflets advertising free tree inspections to houses with trees that look like they need doing
