I have a Stihl 039 with a 16" bar - tons of power for all we use it for.
I also have a couple of 181's and a 280 but it is the 039 which comes out the most!
Obviously I have the correct NPTC CS tickets for the type of work we do :)
Without wishing to be too obvious it does depend on how much you want to spend but I had the same issue and moved up to a Husqvarna 455 Rancher at just under £500.
Personally I prefer Husqvarna chainsaws, in my experience literally all the Stihl chainsaws I have owned and used there seems to be engine problems! I was in Greece this summer and used a commercial Stihl chainsaw and this didn't run properly either! Whereas all the Husqvarna chainsaws I have owned, I haven't had a problem.
Incidentally I've owned several Stihl strimmers which have done hours and hours of work with literally no problems whatsoever, in fact I would say that the stihl strimmers/brush cutters are excellent!
Once again, just my personal experience.
I Use a Stihl MS181, It gets used all the time. Ive even used it to cut a lot of stuff out of its depth but it still carries on!
Just to add i hold my Cs30/cs31!
Thanks for the feedback, I'd be looking to get something under £400. Looks like I could get a 231 for that so maybe that's one I'll look at.
