  • Hi Mike, if you are using any sort of herbicide for a professional purpose then you must hold a spraying license (PA1 and PA6), although im sure there are a lot of people out there using it without one, not that im condoning it!

I buy my herbicides from Amenity.co.uk, you can get a 20 litre drum of glyphosate for about £100 there which should last for ages, to put that into perspective a 1 litre container of roundup from B&Q costs about £43!

Glyphosate is probably the best 'all round' weedkiller as it will kill most things although there are more expensive herbicides for specialist uses, eg. 'Kurtail' for mares tails.

Mike, do a search for this subject as there was a very informative post / discussion on this just a couple of weeks ago. All the information you seek is in that post.
  • If you want to spray weeds, you NEED the certificates, benefits include not being prosecuted and being able to do it properly!

You may have a local supplier of glyphosate; have a wee search around. My local supplier is a member on here and supplies it cheaper than any other online outlet.

  • Any local chemical suppliers in north wales that anyone can recommend ?

  • Try Wynstay's in Llanwrst, or any of the agricultural merchants. Doing a PA1/6 refresher, and am told they are tightening up on the sale of herbicides and you will need to show your certs to buy pro chemicals in the next year or so

  • I think it can not be put clearer - IF YOU USE WEEDKILLERS YOU NEED A LICENCE - without one your are breaking the LAW.

The benefit of a certificate is you are NOT A CRIMINAL - if you spray any weeds for financial reward without a PA1/PA6 you are breaking the law.

As for weedkillers - I use Clinic ace - a generic Glyphosate - where needed - a 5l container sees me through most of a season.

For selective broadleaf killing in lawns I use Depitox - a Gerneric 2-4D herbicide. Again a 5l container sees me though more than 1 season.
