Website help...please!

Good Evening Gang,Well I have read how all you helpul boys and girls have assisted new member Kerry with her website and as it happens I have been seeking a little advice myself which some of you technical boffins might be able to assist me with - with any luck!I have been on some of the techy forums with this one but it would seem that I am an idiot for not knowing how to do this and it must be so obvious and menial a task that my query does not warrant a reply. Anyway here's the big Q as I have been asking it..."HelloI have generated a PHP script for some RSS feeds to add to my website but simply embedding them in the HTML has no effect. How should I go about facilitating this. I am running FrontPage 2003 with SharePoint Services on but also have FTP enabled. Many ThanksNicky"To which (since before Christmas) I have had one reply:"Hi Nicky,I have tested your URL and can see that the return from this URL is PHP code. I would suggest that you need to write a script that places the content of the response in it's own php file, then include that file in your sites pages."My brain freezes on the last sentence - so if any of you know how I might "write a script that places the content of the response in it's own php file, then include that file in my sites pages", and can help me out or even point in the right general direction; I would be forever indebted to you!Word up,Nicky

  • Not meaning to upset any apple carts here Nicky, good luck with your quest. Personally im not the person to help in this occasion.

Last time I looked i was a man, with a females name.

    regards

    kerry
  • I beg your pardon Kerry - did not mean to cause offence! I took both from the name and the presence of a female in yer profile pic...but you know what they say about ASSumptions...

    Apologies.

I get it too with 'Nicky' by the way so sharing your grief here!

Yeah guys I know it's a long shot but there are a couple of keyboard ninjas on this network so i'm chancing to catch their attention! The boffins on the proper techie forums aren't helpful when it comes to simple things it would seem...perhaps it's beneath them.
  • Hey Nicky its cool

Its just a handle, im the one with the grey bits.

    no offence what so ever
  • I don't know anything about PHP 'but I know a man who does'.

You will need to sign up, but it is free. Use the folder titled 'Coders' Corner'. These are among the best people I know for helping out on this type of stuff - well any computer related stuff really.

Also consider your level of experience with php, ie if you are a beginner then say so, it helps them to know how technical they can get in their reply. If you don't understand something ask, they like helping but cannot do that if your holding back. When learning something new remember - there is no such thing as a dumb question.
  • Thanks guys for all the assistance - what a smashing place this is to be - I can hear the Cheers theme tune in the background...

    Nicky,

I think I have something very similar on Landscapedia where I use PHP to generate an RSS feed from the latest articles. If this is what I think you are asking, then you can't simply embed an RSS feed in HTML. You would need another PHP script to read the XML feed and translate that into something a web browser can understand.

You can find scripts like that for free on places like Hotscripts.com. Let me know if you have more questions.

This is exactly what I need to find out what to do - I have no idea how to put the PHP script in or where o put it!?

I'll try those other links too guys cheers!
