Turfing as a stand alone company

Most of my work is lawn weed and feeding, however we get asked to do turfing on a regular basis.
On trolling the web I find loads of company's advertising turf for sale and you get landscapers & gardeners advertising that they put lawns down as part of there portfolio of services.
The question is do any of you lads and lass's think there is a large enough demand to start a stand alone company that's sole purpose is the laying of new lawns.
Web site, local advertising van signed up etc.
I will be keeping my bespokelawncare.co.uk company I am looking to expand with addition business that whilst standing alone complements my excising company
Try putting turfing and your area in your search engine see what you get in your area

  • it's restricting yourself a bit if you are a landscaper, but if your game is currently purely lawn care, then it makes sense to me - i like the idea of laying the lawn and then continuing to get paid for the maintenance.

i find i can get as much turfing work as i need, i tend to turn a fair bit away as i sometimes can't fit it in with other work.

  • Yes Stuart 90%+ of my work is. lawn care services at the moment.
I do some maintenance, mowing etc for lawn care clients who are to mature or do not have the time or inclination to take care of there outdoor space.
This week alone I have been asked to price two turfing jobs.
There are the larger company's who do(turf) the new housing sites in my area but no one who seems to specialise in turfing as there core business aimed at the domestic market, I might be missing the obvious in that no one specialises because there is not the demand for this service,or is it a untapped market?
The lawns I have laid I then do get the lawn care work there after.

  • As a possible side suggestion - have you thought about targeting sports clubs and playing fields?

Cold calling them has netted me 3 annual circket pitch, and 1 football pitch, aeration (solid tine) jobs, along with requisite feedinging twice a year (They would not go for a full feeding programme as the cost would be over £1.5k a visit).

A good market to expand in, without setting a new company.

On the turfing front - if the demand is their, perhaps offer it for a couple of months, and if its a good earner, go for setting up a new side operation.
