The cost of scrap

If your lucky enough to live near a scrap yard they are offering approx £650 per tonne for aluminium. So if you know of anyone wanting to get rid of there old green house mows the chance. There was a lot of landscapers there flogging old mowers, machinery, gates you name it if it's made out of metal take it down there. Unfortunately they only pay cash ;)

haha - wish I had some alu!
  • There a lot of aluminium in a tonne. We took a whole lot of scrap metal from a job to our local scrap guys (who pay cash but give you a receipt so you can declare it). Five tipper loads, piled high and strapped down. We got a grand total of £125 which I changed into Euros and gave to my admin assistant as a leaving present. Hard work that scrap business, those pikies deserve every penny they make as far as I am concerned.

  • That might explain the number of wagons I've seen going round with 2 lads jumping out to peer in our skips to ask if theres any metal in it. They were not happy when I said it was just full of hedge!

Wonder how long until gates start going missing.

Now there's the answer to all those Hayter mower bodies we've been hoarding. They must collectively weigh a tonne ! :-)

  • I wasn't wanting to imply anything - But I couldn't help but notice them walking up every drive, and having a good peer around. I know its speculation - but I get the feeling anything of value that could be carried would be. I suppose its the times were in, plus the price of the metal will make the more mobile members of society bolder in their recycling efforts!

in a word yes they was complet rubbish as any one could see but now every one up my road has to make sure nothing like that which they may want is left out side or the scrap men just take it when no one is looking

its a shame because we have a very good scrap man yard 300 yards down the road who are really nice guys and every one around me takes all there scrap to them but recently there has been lots of scrap vans going round lifting whatever is not bolted to the floor
