  • If it's "badly out of tune", adjusting the screws isn't the answer........... that's why they have "limiters" as they're not meant to be significantly adjusted......... you're just treating a symptom of a problem here and you really need to find out what's causing it and fix that. 

    I'd take the carb off, buy a carb repair kit which will replace the diaphragm etc etc....... they only cost a few quid.  Use a compressor or an aerosol with carb cleaner and blow through all the jets etc.... include removing the fuel metering valve when cleaning.  Assume the plug is ok?

    The limiters can often be prised off with a couple of screwdrivers on each side and then twisting them. The correct tool is available from lsengineers...   5910 890 4501  for under a fiver    Another way is to use a box-cutter and shave off the raised section on the limiter that stops you turning it more than a few degrees. If you've a Dremel, you can remove the "lug" on the carb that stops the limiter turning instead.

    Might not be a carb problem. Carbon builds up behind the exhaust, which reduces the power.

  •  That's a useful way to buy everything  you might need.  I do reckon Stihl overplays some of the servicing needs though...............I guess they're trying to drum up business for their dealers!     in 25 years, never replaced a fuel filter.......... air filters just get blown through with carb cleaner and compressed air.................... if it's running ok, I just leave the plug alone.......  most of my Stihl gear is still on it's original plug after years of use.............. if I was having starting problems, I'd certainly look at replacing one though.

    If the machine isn’t running right because the air and fuel mix is wrong then surely it’s more likely that a air or fuel filter is partially blocked starving it of air or fuel than the carburettor settings going out of kilter.

  • replaced the carb on mine recently with a chinese carb off amazon, works a treat! £18

    • They're pretty good.............. I've used a couple of those chinese ones before.................about £20 including postage from China.......they look absolutely identical to the "genuine" ones. 

      • Yeah it's hit and miss with them, that's why I get them from amazon, easy return if they don't work
