Stihl or Husqvarna hedge trimmer

My Stihl HS45 is starting to show it's age (6 years) and is beginning to smoke a little.

I was wondering about replacing it with a Husqvarna 122HD60 instead, mainly because i like the idea of the rotating handle and also the slightly lower vibes.

Apart from a recent purchase of a base model Husky chainsaw, i have no other experience with ther tools, so any advice would be welcome.

I use both and prefer the stilh, the husky ones when used for long periods get that hot the exhaust melts holes in the guard at the front, This has happened to both of the huskys I use.

  • I only have experience with Stihl hedge cutters. The one thing you can say about Sthil is the easy and fast availability of parts. So very little down time. I don’t know if that is true of Husqvarna or not. I do have a Husqvarna chainsaw, but it isn’t used that much. I would say that the Sthil gear I have seems much slicker and more refined than the one Husqvarna I own.

I use the HS 56 c-e. I have had it about three years. It is only about 4.5 kilos, 34mm tooth gap, 24inch blade length, has a much better blade set and is a more serious machine than the cheaper Stihls. Don’t be put off by the list price, you won’t pay that. It will cost the list pre vat price but including vat. There is a very good reason the 56 is much more money than the 45. The 45 is only a good domestic machine. The 82 is fantastic, but is heavier and even more money of course.
