I would be wary of this as it looks like you can't alter the depth of scarification were as on a wheeled machine it is infinitely adjustable. It would be easy to cause turf damage with one of these.

Further it is basically a domestic spec machine made for occasional use so it is unlikely to stand up to regular use and transport.

Personally I would spend a little extra on a dedicated wheeled machine with a fixed blade reel, I have an Elliet 401 and can recommend this, this way you will be able to do larger areas as well as small ones and can adjust the depth dependent on the amount of thatch and how level the lawn surface is.
  • Rob is asking about the strimer based system, your one is the multi system.

Personaly I have the small enging option but use it solely as a hedge cutter, if I was going to use any other attachment I would opt for the larger engine, probaly the fs85 I beleve thats the 1 anyway.

This machine is actually very good
    1) Its versatile: you can attach a powered sweeper, a cultivator and another tool too
    2) Its light: can even be carried in one hand by one person or wheeled with one hand
    3) Its durable given its fairly affordable price tag and small size
    4) Its effective: it will scarify or de-thatch at 7 different depth heights!!!
    5) Its compact due to its dimensions, folding handle and removable trolley wheels. Fold down the handles in seconds and it easily sits on a single passenger seat no problem
We have used it for 2 years solely for de-thatching acres of commercial and domestic lawns and are very happy with it.
The only real drawback is there is no grass box designed for it.
(That said, if you are going to do de-thatching very regularly as a professional lawn maintenance company then you want to pay £4,500 and get a petrol, top of the range de-thatcher with a grass box)

  • With the combi you get strimmer/brushcutter heads, edge trimmer, power sweeper, bristle brush, pick tines, scrub cutter blwer, hedge cutter and pole pruner.

With the multi system you get pick tines, bolo tines, aerator, de thatcher, power sweep and bristle brush. Also a depthguage for cultivator, weight kit and wheel kit. You could get the edging attchment for them too at one point.

I have used the multi tool too, an old customer had one, as an edger and tiller it was great, I didnt like the dethatcher though, it didnt work to well on his lawns.

I lifted all the ifo from stihls 2009 cat. so yes I was wrong on what was described but right on the given name, I am sure you could get the de thatcher for it at one point.

The strimmer based sytem as you called it is the Combi System that takes a hedge cutter, brushcutter, 180 degree double sided hedge cutter, pole pruner and a strimmer (We have all the attachments with our one)

Rob is on about the MULTI System that takes a: power brush, de-thatcher, cultivator and one other implement

  • scrub cutter- cuts scrub lol, its the short stubby hedge cutter type thing
Blwer - Blower, missed the o and I guess the commer to seperate them.

Dan Tarleton MSc, BSc (Hons) said:
Whats the "scrub cutter blwer" do then?
  • Id removed everything and left a bauld patch in the lawn! I prefer to use solid blade scarifyers instead id spring tined too, I only used it beacause he had it and wanted us to use his equiptment, suposedly kept the costs down for him!

Kieran what was the flaw with the dethatcher?
  • Sorry yes i meant Multi-system .

i saw it at a show (gardeners world /NEC 5-7yrs ago) its solid.

i have the combi km130R 4-mix with strim/hedge/pole-pruner and scrub-cutter and use them all.

just wondered as multi seems versitile and cost-effective ,but if its no-good i wont waste money as i only wanted to invest for scarifier & de-thatcher.................
