Stihl battery range

About to press go on purchase of a long reach and standard hedge cutter and back pack battery and thought I'd see if anyone else is using it yet. I've got a pellenc set up for myself which I'm very happy with but I can't justify the cost of that for my team at the moment as they just won't look after it as well as I do. Hoping the stihl stuff will match up!

    Hi there,

Just a thought, but some STIHL dealers now have a hire or demo cordless system fleet allowing you to try before you buy. Simon.
  • Definitely go with a demo first.  Especially if you are expecting heavy usage. I don't have any battery powered machinery yet but am watching carefully. Our long reach and standard hedge cutters were going pretty much non stop,Wed, Thurs, Fri last week and will be again Mon, Tues and Wed next week.  Would battery power cope with that usage I wonder?

  • I bought a Stihl telescopic chainsaw, HT131, two weeks ago. When I went to buy it from the dealer I was seriously interested in the battery powered equivalent but in the end I decided against it. Think I made the right choice in the long term. On Friday i had large section of overgrown Holly and yew hedge to to battle with. It took all day. I'm sure the battery wouldn't have lasted, and I know you are going for the backpack but for me its all much too expensive, if they supplied 2 batteries as standard it would be a much better proposition. I think the battery gear powered gear looks and sounds like the future but its really hard to justify the extra expense especially as it may not have the grunt of the petrol powered gear. I'd loved to have tried it out on that job to see how it coped though.

Not worried about battery life as the backpack provides enough power for a days work, more the quality of the equipment wanted advice on

Thanks that's useful. Yeah I thought the really long one was unwieldy and haven't been able to see the smaller one but think that's the one I want as it will only get occasional and light useage. My team will enjoy having a break from heavy noisy machines!

I'm interested in the long reach as I have a bad shoulder. Have you used these long term?
If they last well I may get some this year though I'm still not convinced.
I may see if I can trail one?
