About the Landscape Juice Network

Founded in 2008. The Landscape Juice Network (LJN) is the largest and fastest growing professional landscaping and horticultural association in the United Kingdom.

LJN's professional business forum is unrivalled and open to anyone within within the UK landscape industry

LJN's Business Objectives Group (BOG) is for any Pro serious about building their business.

For the researching visitor there's a wealth of landscaping ideas, garden design ideas, lawn advice tips and advice about garden maintenance.

I have been asked to build a new ornamental fish pond (approx 8 sq m in area) in the grounds of a Hospice for use by patients, nurses and visitors.

As well as allowing wheelchair access to the site, I have been tasked with providing a means to stop children or patients getting too close to the water's edge. A picket fence has been ruled out as being too low and easy to climb over.

Does anyone know of any transparent, tough, perspex maybe, screen that has been used for this sort of job? I was wondering what zoos use and maybe someone could point me in the right direction?

The idea is that viewers can see the fish and still abide by dreaded Health & Safety regulations.

Am looking forward to suggestions

Richard

  • Hi Richard
Could you build the pond so it is raised 1m out of the ground with glass panel's in the side for kids to see into the pond at a lower level like an aquarium

  • Good idea Sam. Still not sure of glass but easier to keep clean than perpex

  • i did similar a very long time ago with perplex viewing windows.. i'm not sure if its still the same now but when i completed the job glass strong enough was so expensive compared to perspex.. But like you say perspex can scratch and cloud up and it is no way near as easy to keep clean unless you protect it.
