Resin/chemical stud fixing in paving/concrete

I have a need to install an item that requires strong fixing into/onto existing concrete/block paving area and been advised to use chemical/resin secured, stud fixing method. Previously used drilled hole & expanding bolts or studs but know they exhibit huge expansion forces into the paving item and can often crack when tightened. Had a look at resin options and there seem to be a huge range of products available. Anyone 'been there and done that' and can offer some guidance/experiences ?

  • Sika AnchorFix-1 sounds like the product you require Gary..... brilliant product, minimal prep, strong and durable

  • I would also use Stainless Studs ( with copper grease on thread) if you require long term demounting

  • if im putting something in that needs a good fixing ie a handrail etc, and its only a paving base underneath, then I go back to basics, lift the slab and put a concrete footing in underneath, so that there is something to get a decent fixing in. In my experience, 30-50mm of slab is never enough to get a really decent fixing in.

Thanks for the input, Sika product used with outdoor stud kit to install smoking shelters and a bike rack. Made life easy and worked like a dream. Will look to use in the future instead of expanding bolts.

Biggest problem as the 'Mecanno' like smoking shelters which confused us at first due to 'wrong bolt kit' being supplied'.. :-(

Ever seen two guys taking over 4 parking spaces with bits of shelters all over the place, trying to work out why it doesn't fit together even with a diagram....? Oh what fun...!
