    Why not carry on ?

If they are good and you have a business relationship with them it should be no problem.

Our liability is with a firm in Birmingham and we're in Surrey. No problem - emails, phone and post sort it all out and has done for last 6 years.

  • I didn't renew when it some time ago because I stopped being self employed but I have decided to go back to being self employed and the quote they gave me was over £200 higher than when I was with them, so I am shopping around.... just like I do every year with the truck insurance.

    Fair enough.

Just one point. With liability insurance (and employers liability especially) you are legally bound to keep details of your insurers and your policies for, I think, 20 years for consequential liability.

Insurances have sky rocketed over the last couple of years. Were they quoting like for like especially when declaring likely turnover and business base ?

  • Well they quoted based on my previous details so one would assume they did... I have just done a quick online comparison and came up with two that were considerably cheaper but they were with NIG and Groupama, neither of whom I have used before, not heard of before, hence the request for recommendations.

Both those companies are big players.

You might try AVIVA (NU). We are with them thru a scheme and it's good. Policy tailored to suit.

We have a Contractors All Risk Policy - PLI, ELI, Premises/Unit, Hired-in, Tools on site, Tools in Van cover.

Lot of people recommend local NFU office - give it try as well.

  • NIG's is unbelievably cheap and I have just been through the restrictions and terms and I honestly can't see any fault with it, it even has a lower excess than all the others...
  •

I use http://www.tradesmaninsure.co.uk/  good price for public liability, never had to claim but not just an online outfit you can actually talk to underwriters if your insurance is a bit complex.

  • Have you tried Simply Business Insurance Matt? - on here - do good rates for LJN members tailored to your needs. I had a good experience with them which beat my previous insurer on Public Liability when I was getting my Professional Indemnity Insurance - you can contact Tim Halstead at Simply Insurance direct to discuss your business needs - see his contact details on my old post.

  • my  insurance is now done though swintons as they taken over the local brokers i used for a few years the insurer is mma i am paying the same this year as i have the last 3 years around 100 for a million cover
