Profit margins are the most important thing in any business, so why not discuss it??? ??
On the American Forums they discuss prices and profits, margins, gross and net margins, etc.
So why don't we? Is it because were British or because most people don't know about profit margins or how to calculate them.???
Why dont you start with you answering all your own questions. I for one will not be divulging this information That's between me, my account and the good old HMRC??
OK, lets start here.
Our minimum gross profit is 60% on any item except products. On products it's a minimum of 25%.
We calculate different margins on different aspects of work, such as Lawn mowing has a lower margin than hedge trimming.
Brian.
We are not asking you to divulge personal information. Industry profit margins are not a secret, you can buy books which have guides to pricing and margins for almost anything.
It's my opinion that too many people in this industry just don't know very much about pricing let alone margins, and I thought it might be a good idea to have a discussion about it to help improve the industry.
sorry, but i'm with brian. i make modest margins and am competitive in my area - i'd go further than that, i am competitive with my peers and i undercut the big boys heavily on the kind of work that i quote for.

It may be wise to close this discussion and start it again in the hub so potential customers/clients can't see the info as this subject, yes important but very sensitive.
It's fascinating to see the difference between how the USA discuss this subject compared to the UK.
I was on an American forum where this subject was discussed in great detail not only by small and large lawn care operators but also with professors chipping in and giving advice, which was extremely interesting.
Yeah, i'm not arsed either Adrian. I just can't be bothered discussing profit margins because i can't see the point. You put your price in for work and you either win it or you don't.
