A client of mine has this tree trailing up against the wall between the windows. We have no idea what it is however, as it was there when they moved in. I've got a section as a close up which you can see is in flower now. Anyone got any idea what it is? It's growing like crazy now and I could do with working out how to care for it properly...

It is the tree just in shot on the left, not the Wisteria obvioulsy ;)
  • Hi Daniel

Looks to me like Ligustrum japonicum (Japanese privet)

Evergreen / semi-evergreen tree, what it is doing as a wall shrub beats me.
  • I would go with that as a decent identification too! I cant understand why its being used as a wall shrub either!

Looking at a few photos on google I'd have to say I agree, how very strange... Still I believe it was shoved in by the builder when he did the extension. It doesn't actually look all that bad in its location, just needs trimming back a bit.
  • Yep its Japanese privet, Looks like it might have been put there as a sapling and has obviously established, I agree with Daniel, it actually looks quite good there, give it a thin out and itll be fine
