  • Yes I have not sure of the actual details but basicly if iam off work for more than 3 months with any injury or disease I will be paid a set amount per year for as long as the problem persists.

    Hi Rich,

I hope your knee sorts itself out

I use Allianz and have it tied in with my PL insurance etc.

I've just changed my business structure over to a partnership with my wife now doing my back office jobs as well as looking after our young daughter.

I was offered the choice of accident at work or 24 hour cover. I have 24 hour cover and have added my wife to the policy with the same level of cover. We get £200 per week if either of us cannot work. We thought it was prudent to ad my wife because if she is seriously ill, I will not be able to work because we will have no provision for child care.
  • i got a good policy from sovereign insurance. You can modify the policy to your own needs. The thing that sold it to me was you get your all money you have paid towards it back if you have not made a claim after 12 years. A good safety net to have.
  • Found the link to the policy I mentioned, looks like it has changed slightly since I signed up for it.

  • Cheers Paul, I'll look into this.

I self insure by saving money. The insurance policies seem to pay out very little after a very long time (usually 3 months) with massive premiums.

I took the view that I should employ people who would help the business to tick over and run if I was ever injured.
  • I can understand self insuring by saving, but what if you cant work again. You get some compensation for major injuries that would take a long time to save for.for.
  • If you had a large round or a company that emplys yourself and another surely if you were to be perminatly out of work steps could be made so the company still run and you claimed the profit.

I do not have this sort of cover but as soon as moneys alow I will set up an account, ISA or such as save myselfeven at £10 a week thats £520 a year.
  • just looking at 'income protection insurance' £21.92 with sovereign per/month - pays out after 3 days with say; a chest infection £200 p/week if you have accounts/tax receipt.

just started to save 25.00 per month into direct savings = £300 p/a +4.2%
if i need 1-2 weeks off sickness/bad back.
