Organic lawn care solutions

Hi all

 

We have a client who has asked for none chemical solutions for weeding/feeding her lawn as her garden is managed entirely organically.

 

Any wildlife/environmentally friendly solutions would be appreciated and guidance as to where to find any suitable products also? Not really my area but would like to be able to help if I can.

 

any help appreciated :)

    Thanks all - some really good ideas to look at!

    Can't speak for this particular customer but I really don't like dandelions and I am definitely 100% organic  - in our garden I just pull them up! I do like daisies though :)

    As mentioned the most effective way to deal with weeds is to physically bend down and remove but you can also change your mower cutting heights and the frequency of cuts. By cutting higher you will be creating shade or blocking light for the weeds, you will also be cutting the heads off weeds and allowing the grass to become stronger and healthier. By cutting more often you will be helping to thicken up the sward.

    As for feeding you could leave the grass box off and let it return to the lawn, fish blood and bone can be applied and also calcified seaweed.

    Synthetic lawn feeds generally only contain natural ingredients but are simply more concentrated.

    An excellent book worth reading is ' The Lawn Guide' Sharples and Hayman.

    I'm not sure if it's organically certified but seems to kill the moss ok. The only downside is that it stinks of chicken poo !
