  • Hi Gary are you referring to domestics client emailing you or commercials ? I have found that all my commercials were via website and emails but domestics were facebook and phone calls ? my email is oneill.landscaper.designer@gmail.com abit long wouldnt you think to cram into the advert ?

If your putting it out now, why isn't it aimed at Autumn & and Winter services?

  • Hi....I guessed you were aiming at the domestic market which is why I thought "garden maintenance" rather than "grounds maintenance" might be more appealing to potential customers. "Grounds maintenance" to me suggests commercial or larger areas rather than the smaller domestic garden.

  • Hi, a few suggestions. I hope it's not seen as anything other than constructive, as I was accused recently of tearing someone's flier to pieces! It was awful, but they took it the wrong way. Yours is pretty good, but a couple of things that stand out to me:

I don't think an email is needed on a flier, on the van, or any other "printed" media. You click on an email address, you don't type it in or write it down for future use. A website, easy to remember and catchy, gets them in. Then they contact you via the website.

Totally agree with garden over grounds: I don't think many domestic clients would know what grounds maintenance is, and would assume sports pitches?

Personally I'd not put prices on, but that's entirely down to the market you're aiming at. I'd suggest that offering, say, lawn cuts from £10 is going to leave them disappointed when you quote them £20, £30, or whatever. "Competitive rates", perhaps, or "free advice and quotations", but I'd worry that everyone with a larger garden will call expecting the headline price, and you'll always be unable to match your offer.

Is it worth adding in any qualifications you have, insurances carried, waste license etc.? All raises you above the competition.

Lastly, and you might already have this covered. I can't see the pictures big enough to see what's in them on this site, but one thing that always stands out for me is proper safety gear. I can't see if you've got visor, ear defenders, gloves, boots etc. in the pics, but if not I'd definitely think about it. People see you as professional if you have the right safety kit.

A lot of work come from free ads like gumtree friday ad and flyers posted in shop windows
Although I put both land and mobile numbers on there a majority of the initial inquiries are made using email

I know you may be wanting to rush your flyer out Ben, but have you carried out any marketing?
I thought Adrian Noble post in the premium section was very good BUSINESS

    Customers
Do you know where to get the best paying customers???
Do you know how to advertise to the best paying customers???
Do you know how to keep the best paying customers???
Do you know how to up-sell or cross-sell???

    Advertising
Do you know how to design an advert that has maximum impact???
Do you know what media to use to get the maximum impact???
If not, your throwing money down the drain.

I wasn't that busy in July and August and ended up panicking a little, rushed out a poorly thought out flyer.
It's not just the cost of the flyer that you waste it's the time that it takes you to put them out...

    For example
Some of my grass cutting clients have emailed me to tell me not to come back to next year... With that in mind why waste valuable space on a flyer advertising something that the majority won't need for the next 6 months?

  • I agree never put prices on I did in the early days and customers get disappointed when they don't get the lowest price, every lawn/garden is different, never charge by the hour,I did a leaflet drop a couple of years ago and went along with the quality of service backed up by competitive prices
