What shrub/tree are they from Robert?

In some circumstances it's possible to cut them out and repair the holes with soil and seed. Covering them will only mask the problem IMO.
  • a VERY large Prunus Lusitanica (Canopy size approximately 6m * 6m.
  • my suggestion is that there should be border, not grass on that area, if it is close enough to a big tree/shrub then it is unlikely that the grass would be healthy there anyway.

..also, you have to be careful when root pruning a Prunus as they have a tendency to bleed.
  • the root knuckle is almost in the middle of the lawn so border is not possible also don't think I do any prunning as the root in question is pretty substantial
