Not the answer you're looking for and don't like being pessimistic but when your knees are this bad, wouldn't it make sense to change to a more sedentary job that doesn't put such a strain on the knees? . The arthritis is only going to get worse if you carry on with this line of work and you don't want to end up permanently disabled
I appreciate what you say Graham it makes absolute sense but I am still mobile in every other way .
I have reduced my work load but find I feel more flexible when active .
General bone wear and tear as opposed to repetitive joint strain which rest seems to help so just looking for something to relieve the discomfort when kneeling down .
Never got on with knee pads in the past always found them to be a hinderance perhaps due to buying cheaper ones but now I come to look at them discover there are knee pads costing £7.99 ,knee pads costing £30 .00 and some costing over £99.00 .
I can't work out the difference and reviews are mixed .
Previously used a gel kneeling mat but just occasionally but on close inspection notice it's got a puncture but really just prevented knees getting stabbed by gravel and stones but now need something to take the impact off my knees and cushion them .
The DeWalt range of knee pads look decent does anyone use these ?
hi John maybe avoid the kneeling down jobs? Which I would imagine are tasks like hand weeding or planting small plants with a trowel. Last time I can remember kneeling was to fit some edging. But very rarely otherwise
Yes thanks Billy it certainly makes me more aware of kneeling jobs I just took kneeling for granted previously .
Alot of jobs can be done just bending so can adapt .
I need knee comfort for some jobs at home like painting skirting boards even getting down to look inside low cupboards etc .
It's a game changer I highly recommend looking after your knees in this job .
Snickers insert knee pads, the £42 ones. Like slippers for knees.
Thanks H.B googled them straight away , Inserts had escaped me , much more practical than the ones you fix over your work trousers .
My work trousers have insert pockets but not snickers trousers will get some anyway .
I can also vouch for the Snickers knee pads, not the £42 ones though ( model 9118) .. i have used the £16-£20 ones ( yellow and black ) model 9110 for a few years now due to my knees being bad from other issues and they are a god send. not too bulky or heavy etc and very comfortable. i am always rushing around and being able to just drop to my knees on stones or concrete without fetching a pad to drag around is a real time saver
on a side note, i was starting to get arthritis in my toes and so bending down for more than 20 seconds was becoming excruciating, and believe it or not lol weeding is one of my fav jobs to do so i was a bit concerned. i decided to try a carnivore diet, it is pretty extreme for some people to get their head around only eating meat, fish, eggs, butter and some dairy, but i had a few other health problems too so i went for it and done it for 3 months. all my arthritis pains dissapeared completely and have never come back, its been nearly two years since. i also had a myriad of other problems which vanished with the diet too but i wont bore you with it, if you wish to learn more i would suggest heading to youtube and watching Mikhaila Peterson on her TED talk about how she cured her arthritis first , then for more info find Dr Ken Berry, or Steak and Butter Gal , or Dr Anthony Chaffee to really understand the health benefits. i can honestly say it helped me even after just a short time of trying it. feel free to message me if you or anyone else have questions.
Thanks Scott I had noticed the 9118 ones there are quite a few choices , I will start with those yellow and black ones from Screwfix and see how I get on
What about fish and eggs does increasing intake of these add benefits as not a massive meat eater .Cycling appears to be helping ,my knees feel better after going out on my mountain bike .
Sitting down causes them to sieze up ,activity seems beneficial .
Thanks for sharing the information
Hi John,
I use the NoCry ones, they fix with elastic straps which, if you cross them over, work pretty well. I wear mine for long periods and don't find them too awkward.
They have a gell liner inside a hard plastic cover. This has 2 advantages: you are protected from thorns or any sharp nasties on the ground and your trousers don't get wet when kneeling, which they do with inserts.
Excellent point Ted , I have a pair of the no cry tinted safety glasses ideal for hedge trimming when facing the full glare of the sun , still very durable after several years
Ordered a a pair of the no cry knee pads and also a pair of the snickers inserts , many thanks for the navigation , knee pad choice is so overwhelming .
