Having visited my local garden machinery supplier i noticed some new blue machinery on the shelves, taking a closer look they were hyundai ? looking at the brochure they appeared to market more domestic users but was curious to hear what clients were buying the machines so i asked the the business owner, his reply was to my amazement both domestic and commercial clients were buying the products and to my shock he explained the feedback on the machinery was so good customers were comparing them to Honda for quality on build, durability and reliability ? stating that once they get noticed enough honda will lose sale to hyundai ? as a honda follower i would like to know has anyone else used these hyundai machines and how do they actually compare to other makes and people recommend these ?

Hyundai garden machinery.

I've seen them as well. No experience, but Hyundai have gained enormous respect and are capable of building good equipment.

Pehaps the days of one main make of landscaping gear dominating our industry has gone and producers such as Hyundai will be the future?

  • hyundai have been making large plant equipment for years most of it pretty good and reliable

  • Just checked the price of their top range mower.....a shade under £400....this seems to be far to cheap for a commercial machine,or am I missing a trick.....hmmm...at that price I'm tempted to take a punt!

  • My concern isn't when a machine breaks: that happens all the time, and is as likely to be accidental or wear and tear, as poor design or poor quality. My last repair was the combi engine, when I dropped it and broke the inlet manifold. That could happen with whatever brand you buy.

The essential thing is that it's repaired fast. A dealer who keeps most parts for a single brand is possible to find, but I doubt anyone will keep all the parts from several brands. I'd rather buy whatever the local repairer will work on, and know that 9 times out of 10 it's a while-you-wait repair.

Looking at the Hyundai mowers, that's clearly not a pro machine. Just look at the nasty plastic wheels. We're currently thinking of buying a Hyundai car, no-one's saying they aren't good at what they do well, but their garden equipment looks like a lower spec than other decent brands.

The 51cm mower is only recommended for 190 metre square... Seeing as I just bought a Stiga that is recommended for 10x that they don't seem like they're built to last awhile. But then Korean cars weren't when they first came out but now they are pretty rock solid with very long warranty's.

Ironically Hyundai joined LJN yesterday. Maybe Will can answer a few questions?

Unless I'm mistaken ALL Hayters now use plastic wheels (maybe excepting the 53 Pro).

The mainstream roller mower for many small businesses - the Hayter 48, is only recommended for sizes upto 1 tennis court, ie around 200m2.

The Hayter 56 is THE only recommended one for anything larger than 'a tennis court'- go see Hayter brochure.

Hayter's warranty is 90 days commercial, so similar offering.

The Stiga website says for the Stiga 51: "A 51cm/20" cutting width makes this mower suitable for moderate sized gardens up to 50m x 50m", which is 250m2, so not much more really?

So perhaps we should compare apples with apples ?

    Isn't 50 squared 2500?

  • PRO

Opps. Absolutely right. My mistake. Out by a factor :-(, but strange that Stiga state that size (2500) given it has the same B&S engine as the Hayter's which are rated for 'tennis court' size lawns. The 'running gear' on the machine is little different.

So, are Hayter being cautious or Stiga being optimistic and do we therefore take the Maker's "recommendations" with a pinch of salt ?

  • Well here's some food for thought, guess who make the husqvarna domestic, semi pro lawn mowers ?

    McCulloch =]
