How to be sure your comments are seen

For first time users of the site it must seem all too confusing with buttons and links everywhere and not knowing exactly which ones do what.

On joining, you may have found that other members have left you a comment on your profile and in haste, understandably, you respond by leaving a message in the comment section of your own profile - trouble is, the intended recipient of your message might never see what you've written.

To make sure your reply gets to where you want it to go after you've receive a comment, look for the 'comment back' (circled in image above) link to the bottom left hand corner of the comment you're reading.

By clicking on the 'comment back' link you'll be taken to the profile of the person who left you the comment: you can then leave a response and be sure that person gets to see it (they'll also receive a notification email whereas they wouldn't if you'd replied on your own comment wall).

You'll also see a 'view thread' link too. By clicking on this you'll be taken to a page where you'll see your conversation collated into one string.

Note: only the two people involved in the exchange will be able to see the links described.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

You need to be a member of Landscape Juice Network to add comments!

The third link is for sending a direct private message to the recipient - you'll have to make friends first.

Hi Phil: I've long thought that the "friends" facility is a bit of a barrier to open communication. I would say that we are all friends on LJN. I can understand how it is left as a device to prompt people to engage but I think the Network might have a better flow without it. Newcomers lacking the confidence on these sort of forums wouldn't need to overcome any formal hurdles and can feel at ease to comment when and wherever they feel they'd like to, and those (all) of us who are more often than not pressed for time can shoot in and out without any delays.

    What do you reckon?

I'm afraid I don't have the option to remove the friends facility at the moment..sorry.
  • Didn't mean to be so overly direct Phil, so my apologies for that - I thought it might have been. I'll delete my response as it detracts from your message!

It's OK Nicky, perhaps my reply was unintentionally brisk:-))

No need to delete anything, it was a fair question.
