  • If you're experienced with it ignore this:

    Are you letting it warm up? Give it 30 secs and turn choke off, both mine need a little warm up.
  • Does the blade rotate ok by hand ( I mean with the engine off, fuel off spark plug cap removed for safety, etc ).
  • Check basics. Spark plug. Carb might need a good clean. Is it spluttery ( is that even a word ). I had an older mower was doing exactly the same as yours but it wasnt a not a honda really cant remember the make it was a while ago but beneath the carb was a bell with a 10mm bolt. I just removed it and cleaned it out and hey presto.

    This would be the first I would do before anything else.

    How many revs do you have on when you engage? My hrh536 cuts out if you try and engage the blade on tick over.

  • Just a general tip......just before you engage, tilt the mower slightly back towards you and give it a chance to engage (along with the grass box inflating) without the blade immediately coming into contact with the surface to be cut.

    Good air flow through the box (from regular cleaning) also aids the process.

    Clean the deck after each cut/day of cutting, whenever the chance arises.

    Can I add another tip (related, but not directly) but may be useful ?;

    If you're cuting a good lawn, do not put downward pressure on the mower (ie by placing foot on mower deck grip area on Honda/Danarm's ) when starting it on grass.

    You stand chance of making a circular mowing mark that will show up (ie you are pushing the cutting deck lower to the ground, below your intended cut ht)

    Always slightly tlit mower up if starting on grass :-)

  • Yep Gary, same principle twice over for tilting back before engaging every time. It doesn't have to be grass you don't want to put a nice cutting blade's width into - engage on a loose hardcore surface and duck for cover (along with getting the public liability paperwork out).

    Never happened here - and shouldn't happen with some thought.

    Cheers, Eugene

  • Had the same problem before - make sure the underside is clean and not clogged with grass.l.

  • Thanks for all the replies.

    @Phil, sorry, I didn't get to use the mower until the weekend as I had thought it wasn't working. So I started the things up and it worked perfectly.

    The odd thing is, that the week it didn't work, I gave it a really good warm up, so not sure why it cuts out to be honest.

    @Tony, the blade barely turns, so what does that mean?

    @Jason, ok, I'm guessing I may need to do a mower maintenance course, but do you have a manual for the mower please? as I brought it second hand and haven't been able to find one on the net.

    @Stuart, that could have been the problem but I'm sure I checked it on a good revs point.

    @Gary, thanks for the tip!

    @CMD, gave it a really good clean at the weekend after using it, need another bag for it too.
