  Hi Richard, when I done hard scaping it was 33% deposit and waste / skips were never removed till balance paid at end of job

    Hi Brian we operate 40% on start of works to cover any materials to order-subbies to bring, start of works etc, 35% mid stage of works or at an agreed period with balance payable on completion, any extra works payment on invoice within 7 days... use to be 50% 25% 25% but that sometimes puts people off a little however we avoid bank rolling clients...

      I think most people are happy to pay in stages, but like you say  50% would be off putting for some people, having said that I have had a lot of customers just hand me a cheque for the whole lot on the first day, you just can never tell what way it will go !!!!!!!

        Agreed, i think 40% 35,25% is fair enough...

  Richard,  

  I put up my initial deposit up to 30% this year, in the uncertain financial climate l wanted some protection.  

  For small jobs, balance invoiced at the end with 7 days to pay.

  For large jobs l do monthly billing based upon the works completed, payment to be received before end of month.

   

  I'm a one-man band so cash flow is important to pay my bills...

   

  I like to comment skip not collected until balanced paid.

   

  Happy to say 95% of my clients pay promptly.
